Revision aids and useful tools for your placement

There are plenty of different resources available that are useful for revision and while you’re in practice; here’s a few that I found helpful.

💚 Pinterest! You may think that this is just for DIY projects or design ideas but there is actually a huge amount of vet nursing resources.

💚 @nursing_knowhow pocket guide; this handy little guide includes TPR values, emergency drug doses, calculations for fluid rates and much more! It’s the perfect size to keep in your pocket and in your nursing pouch.

💚 @jakmarketinguk also have a pocket guide but it also has dental formula and condition scoring.

💚 Veterinary Internal Medicine Nursing have guides for internal disorders, including Endocrine, Gastrointestinal and Haematological conditions. These have an explanation of the condition as well as which nursing considerations to make. These can be found with @molymedsupplies.

💚When on placement it’s really handy to have you’re own scissors, fob watch and pens. If you have everything ready in your pocket or pouch it makes life just a little bit easier. You could also have your own forceps, stethoscope and thermometer. @molymedsupplies has them all!

💚Saunders Veterinary Anatomy Flashcards- these flash cards are great! They also come with a key ring which is great for revision on the go and saves you having to carry the whole box around with you.

💚Bandaging materials- I contacted @millpledgeveterinary and they were kind enough to send me a box of various dressings, bandage and vet wrap which is great for OSCE practice! They also sent a bandaging book and a fluid therapy book 🙌🏻

💚 Suture Practice kits- these are great to practice suturing if you’re interested in surgical nursing. The texture is different to skin but is a helpful way to practice holding equipment and suture patterns.

💚And last but not least 😉 The veterinary nursing resources magnetic matching games. Although this is something I’ve developed after my nursing studies, I created them based on my personal experience in that repetition and matching games really helped me to remember things.

If there’s any useful tools or resources you recommend, drop them in the comments!
