Organisation Tips for SVN's
It can be a little overwhelming when you first start your vet nursing journey, so I thought I’d share some of the tips and resources I used that helped me to stay organised 💚
First things first is organisation!
I’m not going to sugarcoat it; there is ALOT to keep on top of between lessons, revision, exams, assignments and practical logs, so it’s super important to keep on top of everything and stay organised.
I’d be lying if I said I stayed this organised 100% of the time 😂 but I was for the majority and occasionally had some days to recollect myself to get back on track. But here are a few things I did that I found useful in staying organised;
💚There are so many PowerPoints, work sheets, mock exams and other bits of paperwork you’ll be given from your tutors, so if you decide to print them off or you’re handed them at college/university then ring-binder folders are a must! I allocated a folder per year, one for mock exams/completed assignments and then gave A&P it’s own space as it’s such a big topic.
💚These folders will fill up fast, so to minimise what I’m taking to college each week I had some smaller plastic folders for each subject and for my assignments
💚Using a diary is really helpful to keep track of homework, exams, assignment deadlines and shift times for your placement. I also use a wall calendar as a visual reminder of important dates. This is next to my desk space so I see it daily to make sure I don’t forget things 🤷🏼♀️
💚I found using a whiteboard helpful to set myself mini targets for revision, assignments, Practical skills progress and upcoming exams. My whiteboard is also next to my desk so it’s a constant reminder of the things I need to get done.
💚To jot down your practical skills cases @nursing_knowhow have a brilliant little log book so you can make a note of your cases at work and log them when you have free time. I didn’t have one of these unfortunately but I definitely would have found it useful!
